Summary
An introduction to PHP and MySQL in the RM Basic and Advanced Linux cPanel web hosting products.
Requirements
Does the Linux cPanel web hosting platform provide support for PHP and MySQL?
The latest PHP and MySQL versions are supported through cPanel, the website administration software provided with the Linux cPanel Basic and Advanced web hosting product offerings.
Procedure
What is PHP
PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for web development and can be embedded into HTML. More information can be found here.
RM Linux cPanel Basic and Advanced web hosting uses cPanel for their website administration. While cPanel and therefore the RM Linux cPanel web hosting solution offers support for PHP and MySQL, the RM Service Desk is not able to provide technical support and assistance for MySQL database and PHP coding related issues. However, there is a wealth of information available on the Internet.
Here are just some of the websites that offer advice and support on cPanel, PHP, phpmyadmin and MySQL:
Open a text editor (e.g. Notepad) and type in the following: <? phpinfo(); ?>
Save the file on your desktop or hard drive as phpinfo.php.
Upload the phpinfo.php file to your website and navigate to the file in your Internet browser (e.g. http://www.myschool.sch.co.uk/phpinfo.php). If you see a large webpage with all the details of RM's PHP installation, you have PHP on your website.
If you scroll down the webpage and see the details of the MySQL installation on the web server, you have MySQL on your website.
