How to configure the Groupcall Xporter for Bromcom
Published Date : 17 May 2017   Last Updated : 10 Apr 2024   Content Ref: TEC5695310

Symptoms

RM Cloud Service Delivery can assist you with your MIS Sync installation. For further information, please speak to your Sales representative on 01235 645 316 or email getintouch@rm.com, quoting this article.

Requirements

As Bromcom is a cloud-based MIS, there is no local MIS server. You can therefore choose to install Groupcall Xporter on any server or computer on your network, ensuring that it has a continuous Internet connection.

  • Groupcall Xporter requires the creation of a dedicated Bromcom user with the Third Party access right.
  • API access permissions are also needed for Groupcall Xporter to extract data from the system.
  • The https://cloudmis.bromcom.com URL must be accessible from the server\PC to which Xporter is installed.

Procedure

  1. Create an account in e-Setup (refer to the More Information section below for details).
  2. Click Security, System Users.
  3. Click the 'Create a new user' radio button.
  4. In the First Name field, type groupcall.
  5. In the Last Name field, type xporter.
  6. Under the User Login Details section, tick the 'The user can log into system' box.
  7. In the Username field, type groupcall.
  8. In the New Password field, type a password.
  9. Tick the Third Party box.
  10. Click Save.

  1. The account created in step 3 above should also be granted specific permissions to the API data areas that will be accessed. Please assign the permissions as shown in the image below.

Note from the Groupcall Support site:

"The following API permissions are required. Without all these permissions, we cannot guarantee that Xporter will be able to access the data it requires, and in some cases the service may not work at all.

Although Xporter requires the capacity to access a wide range of data, it will only collect the data that you have authorised for any 3rd party applications.

Read our guide for further information: Best Practices: Xporter and MIS Permissions."

  1. In the Bromcom Login window, enter your Bromcom service URL, e.g. https://cloudmis.bromcom.com/Nucleus/WebServices/ThirdParty/TPReadOnlyDataService.asmx
Note: You may need to change the domain from cloudmis.bromcom.com, if you host Bromcom locally in your school.
  2. In the School ID field, type the school ID. This is a Bromcom ID, not the DfE code.
  3. Enter the username and password created for third party access.
  4. Click Login. The installer will now verify the connection and display your school's name in green.
  5. Click Next to save the details.

Possible Issues

If your account does not produce the green confirmation, verify the URL, username and password and then retry.

If it still will not confirm the connection, click Next and click Yes on the prompt to skip setting up credentials. The installer will save what you have entered so far, so you can contact your appropriate support point for assistance.

Enter the correct details for your school on the next page and click Next to finish the installation.

FAQs
Q: Why does Groupcall Xporter require this level of access to my Bromcom MIS?

A: Groupcall Xporter works best when all available permissions are enabled, this means Xporter is able to support data items for any linked partner (e.g. RM Unify) data feeds that the school are using. But schools must authorise the software provider for the specific data areas needed in Xporter itself, providing an additional layer of audit and protection for the schools' data. If you decide to remove certain permissions, you may find that this impacts the synchronisation of data between your MIS and RM Unify, affecting your user accounts and group data.
