RM Unify - Satchel One app support note
Published Date : 04 Dec 2017   Last Updated : 23 Jul 2024   Content Ref: TEC5856167

Symptoms

You have an existing Satchel One account and wish to connect it (and the users) to your RM Unify establishment.
Note: It is not possible to purchase Satchel One via the RM Unify App Library. You may only connect an existing account/licence.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that RM Unify accounts have been provisioned for all the required users of Satchel One.
  2. If your RM Unify accounts have been provisioned via MIS Sync in Create Mode, then skip to step 5 (please also see the More Information section below). You can confirm whether you are using Create Mode by clicking here.
  3. Enable MIS Sync in Link Mode https://www.rmunify.com/ManagementConsole/missyncsettings and follow the full instructions on that page. To install Groupcall Xporter, refer to DWN4153727 in the Other Useful Articles section below.
  4. Link your MIS records to your RM Unify accounts by following this guide.
Note: Linking the staff accounts will enforce the following display name format <salutation> <first name initial> <surname>, e.g. Mrs M Atwood. Refer to TEC5730647 in the Other Useful Articles section below to work around this if the format change is undesired.
  5. Log on to the RM Unify Management Console as an administrator, access the App Library and search for the Satchel One app.
Note: The official app has a full Description, Support Info and Privacy Info, with links to the vendor's help pages.
  6. Click the 'Connect to existing licence' option, tick the 'privacy statement' box and enter your Satchel One establishment key.
Note: Your Satchel One establishment key is obtained directly from Satchel One and it will be in the form of a 32-character alphanumeric code.
  7. From the 'Match existing Satchel One accounts' page, select 'Yes, I've already created accounts in Satchel One and want my RM Unify users linked to them' and click Next.
  8. Select the Roles to install the app to and the Launch Pads it is to appear on and select Save.
  9. When your RM Unify users log on and click the tile, they will be taken to the establishment's Satchel One site and will be prompted to authenticate with their Satchel One credentials. These are the credentials that they already use to log on to Satchel One.
Note: RM do not hold this information.
  10. Once the credentials have been entered and authenticated, this will complete the matching of the RM Unify account with its Satchel One account and subsequent clicks of the tile will then log the user onto Satchel One automatically.

Checks

RM Unify Student users who have been successfully linked to their MIS records will display their MIS ID, their Unique Pupil Number, and MIS group info in the Users page of the RM Unify Management Console. Staff will display their Teacher ID if supplied. Satchel One links to a user's RM Unify account using this MIS ID and also RM Unify role; without these there can be no matching, and no automatic sign-on via the Launch Pad tile.

Please note: we do not have visibility of the Satchel One account that an RM Unify account has been linked to. For that information, please contact Satchel One directly.

Possible Issues

Account linking and unlinking

Once an RM Unify user has completed steps 9 and 10 in the Procedure section above, their RM Unify account is linked to their Satchel One account. We don't have access to change or reconnect any accounts held in the Satchel One database; this is the responsibility of the vendors themselves.

If an RM Unify user has connected to the wrong Satchel One account, or the right account has been linked but they receive an error from the Satchel One site, then please contact Satchel One directly via their support site here.

Only Teaching Staff can set homework in the app
Within the Satchel One app, the vendors have configured user roles such that a staff user can be a Teacher (able to set homework) or a Non-Teacher (not able to set homework). This means that users must ensure that their RM Unify and Satchel One accounts have matching role types. Please see TEC6470210 in the Other Useful Articles section below for more information.

Licence renewal
RM no longer sell licences for Satchel One. Instead, customers are expected to use the 'Connect to existing licence' option within the app install wizard when installing the app. Where a previous licence is shown to have expired, the app will still function, due to the presence of a 14-day 'grace period'. Once the grace period expires, the customer is expected to contact Satchel One to request a new licence key (which obviously involves purchasing a licence from them) and then to uninstall and reinstall the app, choosing the option to 'Connect to existing licence'.

RM Unify app doesn't work with iSAMS schools

The Satchel One Groupcall extract and the RM Unify Groupcall extract for iSAMS pull different attributes for the MIS ID. This creates a mismatch between the MIS IDs held by Satchel One and RM Unify, which prevents the users from using SSO.

For example, for staff users:

  • The iSAMS attribute of User Code: In RM Unify, it is the TeacherID but in Satchel One, it is the MISID.
  • The iSAMS attribute of ID: In RM Unify, it is the MISID but in Satchel One, it is the TeacherID.

It is suggested instead that you create a link tile to the Satchel One website: https://www.satchelone.com/login, so that users can sign in with their Satchel One username and password.

More Information

If your RM Unify users have been created via MIS Sync in Create Mode, then the relevant MIS data has already been merged with the account, and so manual linking is not required.

It is recommended that you subscribe to Satchel One Status page for updates on maintenance, performance issues, new features etc. - https://status.satchelone.com/.

For further information, the Satchel One support site can be found here.
