Summary
Explains how to provision RM Unify year groups into RM SafetyNet to apply age-appropriate user-based filtering to students.
Symptoms
You have RM SafetyNet user-based filtering (UBF) via RM Unify, with AD Sync installed.
The Government's current policy suggests that Internet filtering should be age-appropriate to the student. Within RM SafetyNet, it is possible to create a policy based on the student's year group and so have different filtering levels applied to each year group created.
Requirements
Ensure that you already have a group in Active Directory (AD) set up for each year group you wish to sync, or if you have a Community Connect® 4 (CC4) network, that your student users have a year of entry (YOE) value set in the RM Management Console (RMMC).
Procedure
Step 1: RM Unify AD Sync configuration
Log on as an administrator to the server running RM Unify AD Sync and open the Configuration Tool.
Within the establishment you have configured, select YOE Mappings.
Right-click YOE Mappings and select New YOE Mapping.
Enter a new year group name, e.g. '2015 Year Of Entry'.
From the drop-down menu, select the year of entry value, e.g. 2015.
Using the Browse button, select the group to find the security group with these users.
The changes will sync to RM Unify on the next synchronisation by default every 15 minutes.
Step 2: RMMC configuration
Log on to RM Unify as super admin user.
Browse to the Management Console, under 'Users & Groups' from the left-hand list, select Groups.
Set the drop-down view to Year Groups.
Click the Settings button and then 'Set up year groups'.
Select the desired year groups you want to use and either accept the default names, or enter Preferred Names, if required.
Click OK to save.
Students remain in the same year of entry group during their time at the school. They are automatically moved up a year group at the start of each academic year.
Step 3: Setting up RM SafetyNet policies for year groups
If you want to create a new policy, for example for '2015 Year Of Entry' students, then follow the steps below:
Log on to RM SafetyNet as an administrator user.
In the top menu, click Users, Groups.
Click Create.
Enter the relevant group name, e.g. 'Year Of Entry 2015'.
Create a new policy 'Year Of Entry 2015' and select a policy to base it on.
Click the 'Year of Entry' tab.
Select the year of entry you want to use, e.g. 2015.
Prioritise your new group in relation to the other groups in your establishment by dragging and dropping it, with the highest priority group at the top of the list and click Next.
In the final page, you can see the name of the group, the year of entry details and the list of the members. Review the details of the new group.
Once completed, click Finish.
Step 4: Managing the policy
Click the Web Access Policy tab.
From the Policy drop-down menu, select the new 'Year of Entry 2015' policy.
At the top of the page, you should see the following message:
"This filtering policy will apply to the following groups: Year of Entry 2015".
You can now tune the new policy to your needs.
At the year end, you can set up a new year of entry group for the incoming students and change which year of entry groups are in which policies.
