How to add and remove child sites from multi-site RM Unify AD Sync
Published Date : 09 Aug 2022   Last Updated : 04 Oct 2024   Content Ref: TEC8711633

Symptoms

Your Active Directory (AD) is shared with multiple schools. You have an existing installation of multi-site RM Unify AD Sync on your network, consisting of a parent RM Unify establishment and multiple child establishments. This syncs each school's AD users to their respective RM Unify establishment. This article will explain how to:

  • add a new child site to the existing multi-site RM Unify AD Sync.
  • remove a child site from the existing multi-site RM Unify AD Sync.

Requirements

  • The new child site shares the same AD as the existing child sites.
  • There is an existing multi-site RM Unify AD Sync installation on the network.
  • The new child site has its own RM Unify establishment.
  • The new child site's RM Unify establishment has been configured with the desired parent establishment. This is usually done when the child establishment is created. RM staff with the requisite RM Unify Dashboard access can double-check this.
  • All the RM Unify establishments must have a Premium licence.

Procedure

How to add a new child site to multi-site RM Unify AD Sync
  1. On the RM Unify AD Sync server, launch the RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool.
  2. Expand the RM Unify Registration node.
  3. Click RM Unify Parent Estalishment.
  4. On the right-hand side, click Register.

  1. Confirm that the new child site appears on the left-hand side.

How to remove a child site from multi-site RM Unify AD Sync
  1. Disassociate the current parent from the child site's RM Unify establishment. RM Support staff with the requisite RM Unify Dashboard access can do this.
  2. Reinstall RM Unify AD Sync with a clean database. Please see TEC5015612 in the Other Useful Articles section below for the fully detailed process.
  3. Once installed, register the parent RM Unify establishment.
  4. Confirm that the expected child sites appear on the left-hand side and the undesired child site is removed.

Note: In large multi-site AD Sync deployments, it may be too inconvenient to record the many existing AD filters and role mappings prior to the reinstallation of RM Unify AD Sync in step 2 above. In some cases, the RM Unify Support team may be able to assist with an alternative process to remove the child site. Please raise a support call to see if this is possible.

Possible Issues

For the child site you intend to remove from RM Unify AD Sync, if you need to stop syncing the AD users immediately then you can disable the child site in the RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool.

How to disable a child site in RM Unify AD Sync
  1. On the RM Unify AD Sync server, launch the RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool.
  2. Expand the sites on the left-hand side.
  3. Click the child site you wish to disable.
  4. On the right-hand side, clear the Enabled box.
