Summary
Explains why you may see the error "An unexpected error occurred while checking your Microsoft 365 domain details" when federating your Microsoft 365 domain to an RM Unify establishment.
Symptoms
As an RM Unify super admin or Launch Pad admin user, you have started the federation wizard by clicking any Microsoft® 365™ tile in the App Library. At the point of saving your Microsoft 365 domain name and global administrator details, the following error is displayed: "An unexpected error occurred while checking your Microsoft 365 domain details. Please wait a few moments and try again".
Despite waiting for any length of time, the error persists and you are unable to complete the federation.
Cause
This issue can occur if the Microsoft 365 global administrator account entered into the federation wizard has multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled.
Procedure
You must temporarily disable MFA on the global admin account being used:
Retry saving the Microsoft 365 federation wizard again.
Once federation has completed, you may re-enable MFA for the selected Microsoft 365 global administrator.
Possible Issues
It has also been noted that for a recently enabled Microsoft 365 global admin, one may have to wait around five to ten minutes for the enabled state to fully propagate throughout Microsoft 365's servers.
