Viewing orphan settings

An orphan setting is a registry policy setting with no known origin. When you choose to exclude a category from your registry policies, it does not remove settings that are already applied; these settings become orphan settings. You can view the orphan settings for each registry policy category in the right-hand pane.

To view orphan settings

  1. From the left-hand pane, expand Picture of the Registry Policies icon Registry Policies, and then expand either Picture of the Computer Policies icon Computer Policies or Picture of the User Policies icon User Policies. You may need to expand folders in the left-hand pane to display the name of the policy.

  2. From the left-hand pane, select the policy.

  3. From the right-hand pane, at the bottom of the Categories list, choose Orphan Settings.

  4. In the right-hand pane, to view a setting and its value, expand each item.

Note

  • When you choose to include a category in your registry policies, any settings in that category are no longer orphan settings.
