Resetting a user's profile

A user profile is a set of files used by Windows to provide the user's desktop when they log on to a computer in the network. Occasionally, a user's profile can become corrupted by programs. Should this happen, you can fix the problem by resetting a user's profile to return the profile to its default state.

To reset a user's profile

  1. From the left-hand pane, expand Picture of the Users icon Users and choose All Users.

  2. From the right-hand pane, right-click the user and, from the menu, choose Reset Profile.

  3. To confirm the reset, click Yes.

A check is carried out to ensure all the appropriate folders and files are present for the user's account, and any that are missing or corrupt are restored or replaced.

Notes

  • Resetting a user profile will lose any customised settings the user has made to their computer, except for files they have placed on their desktop.

  • You can use the same process to reset multiple users. First, select all of the users that you want to manage.

  • You can also carry out this task from the RM Management Console Start page. Click the Users icon and, from the list of tasks, select 'Reset a user's profile'. Use the Select Item window to select the user you want to manage.
