Adding a path rule

You can set a rule that allows or does not allow a file in the specified path to be run.

To add a path rule

  1. From the left-hand pane, expand Picture of the Software icon Software and choose Picture of the Software Restriction Policies icon Software Restriction Policies.

  2. From the right-hand pane, choose Path Rules.

  3. Click the Add button.

  4. In the New Path Rule window, in the Path field, type the full path that you want to add. Alternatively, you can click the Browse button to locate the path you want to add.

  5. Type a meaningful description for the new rule.

  6. From the Rule drop-down list, select the rule to be applied to the specified path.

  7. Click OK.

  8. You can add more file rules by repeating from step 3.

  9. To commit your changes, click Save. Alternatively, to remove all your changes since the last time you saved, click the Revert button, then click Yes.

Notes

  • Path rules that allow access are listed with the Picture of the Allowed Path icon icon, and path rules that do not allow access are listed with the Picture of the Disallowed Path icon icon.

  • You can allow a user to run only a specific file or prevent them from doing so by adding a file rule. See Related Topics.

  • When necessary, any user policy can be exempted from software restriction policies. When you edit the properties of the user policy, in the Software Restrictions category, ensure the 'Exempt from Software Restriction Policies' setting is ticked.
